My Bike and I

I'm Jo. 25, a Textile Engineer and cyclist racing for Maxgear/Champion
Systems/Base in 2013.
Last year was my first race year in which I rode for Seamons Cycling Club, based in Altrincham.  I was 'having a go' riding time trials, circuit races, a few local and National road and stage races.  I also did a bit of mountain biking in my spare time.  The transition from last year to this year has been really exciting and I can't wait for this coming season - it's amazing how quick time flies when your having fun - it's nearly here!

Recently we received the new Champion Systems team kit and jeeze there was loads of it! For those that know me, I'm not one to turn up wearing matching kit - well I didn't really have matching kit, so I couldn’t contain my excitement when it arrived.  I'm looking forward to trying it, going from not having a pair of bib-tights and freezing on rides, to having all the kit I could possibly need!

Joining the team wasn't about the kit though, that was just a major bonus. The best bit is riding with like minded female friends. We are in the most part based in Manchester and so can train on a regular basis together.  Eve, although based in my home county of Cumbria, makes regular trips down to Manchester so doesn't miss out. There aren’t many women's teams who live so close to each other - we're lucky!

Obviously our team have road race goals for next year, but I have some on a personal level. One such goal is to be able to get under the hour on a 25 mile TT on the J2/9 and I'm going to try and blog about my progress...so the cliche - watch this space comes into play.  The time trials that I have done over the past year have all been on my Roubaix, with no time trial equipment.  My P.B. is 1.03.43 on the above course with base level Cosmic Carbones and shoe covers - I bought these towards the end of last year's time trial season and could feel the difference.

Last year I experienced entering road races as an individual.  Road racing is a team sport, and I have been able to see first hand the benefits of being part of a team.   I’m looking forward to riding some more road races this year - it will be interesting to see how we develop as a team and as individuals.
I am very pleased to be part of Champion Systems/Maxgear/Base for 2013 - give them a follow @maxgearettes! Bring on the new season!
